Harborne Hill School. 2010

As a fashion student at Birmingham Metropolitan College, I have recently been chose to be a part of a design team to help design a new school uniform for ‘Harborne Hill School’. We have been asked to design this new school uniform, as Harborne Hill School are becoming an Academy associated with Birmingham Metropolitan College.
As a team Fashion Design Team, we have looked into & researched the history of Harborne Hill School.
As a team we felt this was right move to make in order to help us with our ideas and designs. Myself, Rakhee, Bhapinder, and Natalie have studied old uniform's. Looking at the old photos we discovered we can only see the style of the uniform, and not so much the colour so as a team we have had to just work with the leading colour's at the moment which are: White for the shirt, green and black tie for years 7-10, with a green, black and gold tie for prefects, a green jumper, and green and yellow with in the logo. Looking at these colours we are thinking of giving the school a new rang of colours to work with their new style of uniform. To show their success of becoming a new and improved school.
As a Graphic Design Team Chris, Safwaan, Ben, have been looking at the old school logo & the current school logo to change/adapt to fit with the new style of uniform.
Chris has designed one logo where his inspiration from looking at the health and science side of the school and looking at the periodic table.
Ben looking at crests getting his inspiration from the logo of the shield which is on the current school uniform.
Safwaan looking at style of fonts to use as lettering 'old and new'
To set a smart new look for the school we have looked into all different styles of uniform. As Harborne Hill School have already got Polo tops an Jumpers, as a team we thought of Shirt, tie, blazer, shirts, an trousers. But with Shirts, ties, and blazers the look of ‘Smart and academic’ may become ‘Smart and casual’. We also thought with this look the behavioural system maybe effected as pupils may not want to have "Shirts tucked in", "Tie ‘done’ up", this maybe due to the fact of "fashion" because of how uniform is perceived in films and on soaps, e.g. Harry Potter, St. Trinian's, Wild Child, Princess Diaries, About a boy, Waterloo road, Hollyoaks, Eastenders, etc.

These are just a fair few examples of the uniforms.
After a long discussion an long hard think about how we could keep the uniform looking smart, we feel as a team the best way to keep the uniform looking the best it can is to keep the look of the polo shirts and jumpers. But it just doesn't stop there. With addition to the new look of the school 'The Team' thought of keeping to the idea of a 'new look' but with a new style of cardigan (female and male being different, not the same as the jumpers as they are unisex), new set of colours, and a new logo.
These are a few of the designs our design team came up with.
These colours and styles are just temporary ideas and we are welcoming you upon our design team to help us design your uniform for you and your fellow pupils. We hope you like what we have designed so far.

This is what we presented to the puplis of 'Harborne Academy'. They thought our points of view on the uniform where good, an understood where we were coming from with the issues of ties&shirts. But coming to a conclusion to keep the identity of the school it is seems best to keep the look of 'Shirts & ties'. With addition to this the pupils of 'Harborne Academy' still really liked the idea's of cardigans, changing the colour, and the logo.
Colour of uniform has been chose and it's a rich, dark purple, with a strip of yellow into it, the logo black and yellow, with ties, purple, yellow & black for years 7-11, with a prefect tie which would be purple & two gold strips, and then a tie for head boy & girl which will be a block tie of one colour which will be purple, with a white shirt. No blazers where chosen from the pupils so we haven't designed any, they would just like the cardigans and jumpers to be smart (which they will be). Also the cardigans will not be made out of 80% cotton, 20& nylon they will be made out of 45% acrylic, 30% cotton, 15% polyester, 10% other fibres.
